Acura ILX Bulbs Are Too Hot for the Headlights to Handle

The Acura ILX comes with a lot of great features like strengthened calipers for performance braking, and sequential SportShift automatic transmission for a sporty ride. I’m guessing candle-powered headlights, however, didn’t make the original marketing brochure.

Unfortunately for ILX owners, that’s exactly what’s happening – their bulbs are turning into flames when the engine is running and the low-beam headlights are on for a long period of time. Apparently, heat generated by the bulbs can’t properly escape the assembly. Even if a fire doesn’t occur, the buildup of heat around the bulb and reflector will weaken their performance over time.

To fix the issue, Honda is recalling the 2013-2014 Acura ILX and ILX Hybrids, but only those with specific manufacturing dates.

The recall is expected to begin on July 28, 2014. Acura dealers will replace the halogen projector beam headlights. Affected Acura ILX owners can contact Acura customer service at 800-862-2872 and give them recall number JE9.
